Update: FG bans, Unbans Helicopters from Kaduna

The confusion bedeviling the movement from Kaduna Airport to Abuja has resulted in policy somersaults of the ministry of Aviation as it involves the chief security officer of the president. With the arrival of the President from medical Vacation, there were already in top gear arrangement for Bristow and possibly Calverton, the Helicopter charter companies, to start airlift of dignitaries, especially foreign dignitaries who needed to come to Abuja for business.
Initially, the office of the National security adviser circulated a memo advising the stoppage of any planned or existing flight schedule to Abuja via Helicopters due to what it termed security concerns.This Magazine has reported the transit crisis that the ministry is facing in moving passengers from Kaduna to Abuja.
Many travelers have indicated their preference to landing at Minna Airport and being shuttled to Abuja from there.This now makes it imperative that passengers can opt for the Minna route. Expectedly, increased traffic is notice at the Mina terminus. Minna is nearer to Abuja than Kaduna, which earlier resulted in protests by the government of Niger state that Minna be made the official alternative route due to its proximity. Such protests were ignored.With the lifting of passengers from both Kaduna and Minna, the earlier ban has been overruled.
James Odaudu, Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation,said in a statement that the airlifting by Helicopters effectively signals the resumption of Helicopter services.
Meanwhile, the rail and road transport continues from Kaduna, while Minna utilizes more of roads.In Kaduna, the Military continue to help in security surveillance, and ground operations are moving on. Recently, N49 million was intercepted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who claimed the owner is at large. But rumors of complicity of some government agencies were rife , suggesting it as a subtle prop for the embattled former acting EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu who could benefit from it in his confrontation with the Senate, as it shows the commission under him as being proactive.
