Integrity, which was a reference point of President Muhammadu Buhari has reached an all time low as knocks on his anti corruption war is being reduced to personal vendetta and war against opposition on a daily basis. All his lieutenants caught n the web of scandal and financial recklessness has been shielded one way or the other, and blames heaped on past governments even in the face of glaring incompetence around him. The latest of these was the Baru_Kachikwu feud, which was an embarrassment to the government. Minister of state for Petroleum Ibe Kachukwu has written a memo to the president, complaining of insubordination and and the awards of contracts by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Group Managing Director, Merkanti Baru, without due process. After buck passing and intrigues, it was alleged that the approval for the the contract of $25 billion awarded to firms with links to the Chief of staff to the President, Abba Kyari, was obtained from Buhari when he was in his London sick bed and Osinbajo was acting President. When the true constitutional implications hits the presidency, the spokesperson of the Vice president Yomi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, saved the embarrassment by saying that it was approved by the Vice President. Apparently he was pressured by the presidency to say that, because the vice president himself came out and denied ever signing such approval. Suddenly, Kachikwu was downplaying the issue, smoothing the ground for the final resolution: the presidency now claims that the contract never even existed. Integrity down the drain.
Few days later, Kachikwu’s house caught fire.
Within the same time, Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, complained that, blew the whistle on the Aso rock clinic, where no single drug can be allegedly found. She alleged she was advised by the management of the clinic to seek medical treatment abroad. Again, it was swept under the carpet. Integrity down to all time low.
This was in addition to the MTN bribery scandal, of the Chief of staff to the tune N500million, the Dubai housing scandal of the Chief of Army staff in addition to the allegation of bribe for posting running into billions of the inspector General of Police. The IGP went to court to stop senate probe of that and sundry offenses.
